Question by Alessa’s Mommy: What is the difference between a humidifier and a vaporizer?
My 7 month old daughter is really congested and has lots of phlegm. Which is better in this situation? And in your experience what brand of vaporizer/humidifier is best to use?

The vaporizer usually heats the water and puts more wetness into the air, presumably carrying more of the medicine. A humidifier often uses electrostatic techniques to add just a touch of moisture to the air. I’d say better to go with the vaporizer.

Try a vaporizer and also saline drops for her nose. It will help with the congestion

i think the humidifer clean the air around you and the vaporizer you usually put like something in it(liks vicks liquid vapor stuff) and helps with congestion and stuffy nose i bought a cheap vaporizer at wal mart for like 14 bucks and works great really helped when my daughter was sick she was really congested. good luck hope she feels better

A vaporizer uses medication (Kaz) and releases a menthol scent into the air. Those are NOT recommended for babies or small children. You need a cool mist humidifier. There isn’t one “best” brand. I’d get an ultrasonic which isn’t as loud, and if you can find one that doesn’t use filters, it’d be even better. I have a Walgreens brand one and it works great–I’ve had it for two years with no problems. If you get warm mist, your baby may touch it as she gets older and burn herself, not to mention, the steam is hot. Plus, warmer things harbor more bacteria, so cool mist is always the best option.
